Diet for gamers

The most powerful computer in a gamer is his brain - it is what he plays with. The processor or graphics card will therefore be his nervous system. The most important task is therefore to provide the necessary nutrients and water on a daily basis for these two components to work properly.

Failure to systematically provide the ingredients needed for proper brain and nervous system function can quickly result :

- malaise

- headaches

- lack of concentration

- aggression

It should be noted here how often players encounter just such symptoms.

I have always said that an athlete should not be a cook, physiotherapist and nutritionist all in one. On the other hand, it is very important at some stage in one's career to learn the basic, fundamental principles of how our body works.

What does our brain feed on?

The answer is simple and I will put it as simply as possible : sugar (glucose), oxygen and fatty acids. Our brain accounts for about 2% of our total body mass. It uses as much as 25% of glucose found in our blood and 20% of oxygen taken in.

Glucose is responsible for its proper functioning, i.e. thinking, remembering and, in addition, influences psychomotor performance.

What does this look like in practice?

When we eat a wholesome breakfast, blood glucose levels will rise gradually over three hours and then start to fall slowly. Similarly, when we eat a breakfast rich in simple sugars such as doughnuts, chocolate or jam, our blood glucose levels rise dramatically and then rapidly drop. Apart from the feeling of hunger, the performance of our brain returns to the 'add ingredients' level.

Nutrition tips for players :

 eat and don't skip breakfast

  • avoid products containing simple sugars
  • Eat every 3-4 hours
  • eliminate foods that are difficult to digest
  • introduce nuts and seeds of all kinds into the diet
  • drink water regularly and rehydrate
  • Use caffeinated drinks and rehydrating substances 30-40min before the game
